Brownness

Stranger

Hello stranger, where have I been these past few months? There was a time when you were the only friend I knew and now we barely know each other.

5 hours later and still nothing to say. Isnt that really saying a lot?

Silence.

Perhaps that is as it should be.

Pretty cool, San Francisco to declare each Monday “Veg Day”

SS: More symbolic, but a great gesture nonetheless…

S.F. to Hold the Meat on Mondays

Published

April 07, 2010

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a resolution (PDF) this week declaring each Monday “Veg Day.”

The resolution will “encourage restaurants, grocery stores and schools to offer a greater variety of plant-based options to improve the health of San Francisco residents and visitors, and to increase the awareness of the impact a Green Diet would be on our planet.”

The Meat-Free Mondays resolution doesn’t offer much bite, however, since it is nonbinding and doesn’t allow for enforcement.

In the resolution, Supervisor Sophie Maxwell pointed to other regions that have recognized the virtues of eschewing meat. In July, the city of Ghent, Belgium established a VegDayto be held every week of the year. Thecity of Takoma Park, Maryland, adopted a whole meat-free week in 2009 near Earth Day, a tradition that will live on again this year when Takoma Park Veg Week takes place April 24-30.

In October, the Baltimore Public School District also adopted a Meatless Monday menu for its 80,000 students.

The developments follow remarks in late 2008 from Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, suggesting that omitting meat from the diet for a day would allow individuals to do their part to address climate change, since livestock is a large source of greenhouse gas emissions. The movement gained some star power in June when Paul McCartney threw his support behind the cause, starting acampaign to get consumers to ditch their carnivorous ways for a day and even writing a song about it.

In the U.S., the Meatless Monday initiative of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, aims to cut meat consumption by 15 percent for health and environmental reasons. Some of those who have taken action include Simon Cowell, Gwyneth Paltrow and Martha Stewart’s body + soul magazine.

Another resolution passed this week by the S.F. supes praises local businesses that only use cage-free eggs.

Letting Go

There are people who can walk away from you.

And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you, let them walk.
I don’t want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you,
calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean
 hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to
 anybody that’s left.

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to
you, you can’t make them stay.

 Let them go.

And it doesn’t mean that they are a bad person, it just means that their part in the
story is over. And you’ve got to know when people’s part in your story is over so
that you don’t keep trying to raise the dead…

You’ve got to know when it’s dead.  You’ve got to know when it’s over.
Let me tell you something… I’ve got the gift of good-bye. It’s the tenth spiritual
 gift; I believe in good-bye… It’s not that I’m hateful, it’s that I’m faithful,
and I know whatever God means for me to have He’ll give it to me. And if it takes
too much sweat, I don’t need it. Stop begging people to stay.

 Let them go!!!

If you are holding on to something that doesn’t belong to you and was never intended
for your life, then you need to…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to past hurts and pains …

 LET IT GO!!!

If someone can’t treat you right, love you back, and see your worth…

 LET IT GO!!!

 If someone has angered you.

 LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you have a bad attitude…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you’re stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you keep trying to help someone who won’t even try to help themselves…

 LET IT GO!!!

If you’re feeling depressed and stressed …

 LET IT GO!!!

If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God
is saying ‘take your hands off of it’,  then you need to…

 LET IT GO!!!

Barbara Mori’s bald and beautiful ‘Kites’ tales

When producer Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu first met Barbara Mori
for Kites story narration in Los Angeles, the actress just had inch long
hair as she had gone completely bald for her role in a Spanish film.

She had just completed shooting for her film Cosas Insignificantes
(Insignificant Things) that spoke of the intricacies of human relations. For
her role, the Mexican beauty had shaved her head, because in the film, her
screen son has cancer and is losing hair, so she expresses solidarity with
him this way.

Producer Rakesh Roshan, who flew to Los Angeles to give Barbara a narration,
admits that when he saw his future heroine with only one inch long hair, he
was hesitant to sign her on. “I was aghast,” admits Rakesh. “I asked her
how we would shoot with her six months down the line, but she was confident
that her hair would grow or else she suggested that she would put hair
extensions.”

Director Anurag adds, “Barbara looked beautiful in short hair too. I had an
option to have her with short hair in Kites, but in our industry actresses
generally don’t have short hair. So later when she came to India, we did
some look tests with Barbara in short hair and also with hair extensions and
she looked even prettier in long hair.”

Thereon began the bald and beautiful tales of Kites!
